COMMUNITY RELATIONS:

Citizen’s Ad Hoc Advisory Committees:

At times, the Board of Education will find it desirable to appoint citizen advisory committees to study and make recommendations relative to specific interests of the Board.  Such community involvement is an effective public relations tool which the Board can use, so long as the ground rules are clear.

The Board of Education shall, upon appointment of a citizen’s advisory committee, make each committee member aware of:

1.  The purpose of the group

2.  The bylaws and policies of the Board

3.  How committee members are chosen

4.  The deadlines for all reports or actions

5.  How the Board will respond to committee recommendations

6.  The date at which the committee will be dissolved.

Members of appointed advisory committees should  understand that the role of the committee is strictly advisory, and that the Board has full authority and responsibility for the operation of the district schools and, therefore, may or may not accept the recommendations from the advisory group.
