Designated High School

The Preston Board of Education has selected the Norwich Free Academy (NFA) as the Designated High School for Preston secondary students. Accordingly, all Preston secondary students are entitled to attend NFA and are eligible for transportation services thereto at the Board's expense.

The Board of Education also accepts responsibility for tuition (where applicable), and provides transportation services for students who apply and are accepted at the following institutions:

•  Ella Grasso Technical High School
•  Norwich Technical High School
•  Ledyard Agri-Science and Technology High School
•  Marine Science Magnet High School of Southeastern Connecticut
•  Science and Technology Magnet High School of Southeastern Connecticut
•  Ledyard High School

In addition, the Board of Education accepts responsibility for tuition and provides transportation services to and from a designated transportation hub in Preston for students who apply and are accepted to the following institutions:

•  Griswold High School
•  Wheeler High School

Any high school age student attending any of the foregoing schools who wishes to transfer to any other high school referenced in this policy may do so; provided, however, that the student applies and is accepted by that school, if it is not the Designated High School.

A high school age student who becomes a resident of Preston who is not currently enrolled at one of the foregoing technical, agri-science, or magnet high schools or Ledyard High School may apply to attend any one of those schools or, in the alternative, attend the Designated High School, if not already a student in attendance there.

Lastly, special education placements at any grade level at any high school may be approved by the Superintendent of Schools upon recommendations for a special education out-of-district placement by the Director of Special Education when necessary to meet a student's special educational needs identified through the special education process in the Preston Public Schools.
