Summer School
The Bethel Public Schools may sponsor a summer program providing opportunities for enrichment and remedial instruction as need and interest dictates. Enrichment courses shall carry no credit.
The summer school curriculum shall be established in line with the needs of students. The administration shall have the right to cancel announced summer courses for which there is insufficient enrollment and to refund fees.
Admission
Attendance in the summer school shall be on a voluntary basis. Transportation will be the responsibility of the parents or guardian, except for students enrolled in special education programs.
1. Elementary
Admission to elementary summer school classes will be limited to those students who will be enrolled in grades K-5 in September of the year of the summer school session.
2. Secondary
Admission to secondary summer school classes for enrichment or noncredit courses must be approved by the Superintendent of Schools or designee. Admission to a review course for credit will be permitted to students previously enrolled in the course but who have not received credit for that course. Credit for courses not offered by the school district may be granted with prior approval from the high school principal.
3. Tuition
Nominal tuition fees for resident and non-resident students may be charged as established by the Board of Education.
Staff
The Superintendent shall designate a member of the staff to coordinate the summer school program. Teachers for summer courses shall first be sought from among current staff members under the provisions of the contract as agreed by the Bethel Board of Education and the Bethel Education Association.
