Democracy Education

It is the policy of the New Hartford Board of Education that the school district will comply with the Connecticut requirement to provide students a program of United States history, including instruction in United States government at the local, state and national levels.  Such program shall include the duties, responsibilities and rights of United States citizenship.  No student shall be graduated from any such school who has not been found to be familiar with these subjects.

In the fulfillment of this requirement, elementary schools shall include in the third, fourth or fifth grade curriculum a program on democracy in which students engage in a participatory manner in learning about all branches of government.
