Instructional Assistant

JOB GOAL
The Instructional Assistant assists, supports, and works closely with teachers and administrators performing many non-instructional duties necessary in a school.
The Instructional Assistant is evaluated by the building principal.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: A high school diploma (or higher)
Special Knowledge/Skills
experience working with children
ability to independently follow directions and instructions from a teacher or building principal
possess excellent interpersonal skills and a strong sense of responsibility
knowledge and possession of the skills necessary to meet the social, academic, physical, and emotional needs of children in preschool through grade 6
training in First Aid, and CPR
knowledge of proper English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and fundamental mathematical calculations
proficiency with technology, and knowledge of office methods, procedures, and equipment, including receptionist and telephone techniques
ability to maintain student confidentiality.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES OF THE INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT
Establish and maintain high standards of student behavior consistent with school/district policies in the cafeteria and on the playground.
Supervise students throughout the day.
Complete record keeping tasks as assigned by a teacher or principal.
Copy and collate large quantities of student worksheets as assigned by teachers throughout the building.
Assist teacher with organizational needs in the classroom.
Assist secretary with organizational needs in the office.
Perform other duties as assigned or required by the principal.
Tutor

JOB GOAL
The Tutor assists the regular and special education teacher in organizing and implementing an appropriate instructional/academic program. This employee will work under the direct supervision of a teacher(s) and will be evaluated by the Director of Student Services or building principal.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: An Associates Degree (or higher)
Special Knowledge/Skills
experience working with children, especially those with special education needs
ability to independently follow directions from a teacher in the delivery of individual and small group instruction
possess excellent interpersonal skills and a strong sense of responsibility
knowledge and possession of the skills necessary to meet the social, academic, physical, and emotional needs of children in preschool through grade 6
ability to maintain current and accurate records of student work

ability to maintain student confidentiality.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES OF THE TUTOR
Classroom Management:
a. Assist the teacher with maintaining a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
b. Assist with duties that require movement of students.
Knowledge of Subject Matter:
a. Communicate accurate knowledge of subject matter.
b. Apply concepts and rules relevant to subject matter.
c. Use current references, materials, and technologies of the subject field in a manner appropriate to the developmental stage of the learner.
d. Demonstrate the ability to check student comprehension of subject matter and provide accurate feedback.
Instruction:
a. Assist the teacher with implementation of lesson plans for students based on assessed needs.
b. Assist in the coordination of student schedules or in conjunction with various teachers' schedules.
Delivery of Instruction:
a. Provide academic assistance and support for individual and/or small groups of students as directed by and under the supervision of the teacher.
b. Assist the teacher with effective use of media and technology in the classroom.
Assessment of Student Performance:
a. Assist the teacher with administration of appropriate assessments designed to measure and observe student progress.
b. Assist the teacher with evaluating student progress on a regular basis.
Communications:
a. Establish and maintain cooperative relations with other employees.
Professional Development Program:
a. Continue professional growth through educational inservice, meetings and professional literature.
Other Professional Responsibilities:
a. Assist the teacher with taking necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, materials, equipment, and facilities.
b. Assist the teacher with ensuring that each student in the program has the necessary records in his/her permanent record and/or portfolio.
c. Perform other teaching and non-teaching responsibilities such as lunch and recess duties as directed by the principal, or the Director of Student Services.
TLC Tutor
JOB GOAL
The Teaching Literacy through Comprehension (TLC) Tutor assists students in kindergarten, grade one and grade two and implements a highly structured reading and writing instructional support program. This TLC tutor will work under the direct supervision of the building principal, the Director of Student Services, and the Primary Curriculum Specialist.
Evaluated by the building principal and/or the Director of Student Services with direct feedback from the Primary Curriculum Specialist

experience working with children, especially those with exceptional reading needs
ability to work independently while following directions, instructions, and supervision from a teacher
knowledge of early intervention reading support skills, specifically phonological awareness
possess excellent interpersonal skills and a strong sense of responsibility
ability to maintain student confidentiality.

Technology/Media Assistant

JOB GOAL
The Technology/Media Assistant helps the Library Media Specialist fulfill the mission of the information literacy/ technology program to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. He/she provides clerical and technical assistance to the Library Media Specialist, teachers, students and other library users.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES OF THE TECHNOLOGY MEDIA ASSISTANT
Assist students and staff in locating and using materials in the library media center by answering questions, gathering materials, etc.
Demonstrate use of equipment and software and operation of equipment.
Demonstrate the operation of audio/visual equipment including projectors, televisions, and digital cameras.
Perform general secretarial responsibilities including typing, filing, compiling statistics and assisting with financial records; uses computers available in the library media center and the computer lab to accomplish many of these tasks.
Maintain the automated catalog and other library media files; includes data entry for automated circulation and catalog systems.
Inventory and maintain equipment; includes changing lamps and other easily replaced parts, performing preventive maintenance through cleaning and lubricating, preparing equipment to be sent for repair, maintaining repair records and inventories.
Circulate library materials; includes checking materials in and out, sending overdue announcements and maintain overdue records; schedules the use and delivery of audio visual materials and equipment.
Provide sign-up sheets for library, computer lab, and technology equipment and updates lists as needed.
Assist with maintaining the library collection; includes shelving books, reading shelves, adding and withdrawing items, mending and repairing items, preparing books for the bindery and assisting with inventory.
Assist with the ordering and processing of books, materials and equipment; includes typing orders, submitting orders, maintaining order records and processing materials when they arrive, including paperwork.
Maintain clean, orderly and attractive environment; assists in the preparation of book displays and bulletin boards.
Supervise students under the direction of the Library/Media Specialist and the principal.
Oversee volunteers and their tasks. Provides training to volunteers as needed.
Update library webpage adding basic information and content provided by the Library Media Specialist.
Manage periodical subscriptions - processing, keeping them current, etc.
Assist with library clerical duties such as preparing book lists, compiling curriculum related materials, and preparing lesson related materials.
Assist with lesson delivery in the library and the computer lab as needed.
Assist staff and students in operation of technology items (digital camera, video camera, scanner, overhead projector, printers, etc.)
Support responsible and ethical use of information.
Support district technology and media initiatives.
Attend technology/library-related meetings, workshops and in-service programs.
Perform other duties as assigned.
