Filling Vacancies (Regional School Districts)
Regional Board Member Vacancies
The Board appreciates the importance of membership continuity, and ensuring a clear and expedited process for filling a vacancy is important to effective Board operations. If a vacancy occurs, the vacancy shall be filled by the respective town in the Region in accordance with either of the following procedures, as determined by the legislative body of the respective town:
A. Election by Town Meeting: The town affected, at a town meeting called within thirty days from the announcement of such vacancy, shall nominate and elect a successor to serve for the unexpired portion of the term.
B. Election by the Town Legislative Body: The legislative body of the town affected shall elect a successor within thirty day from the announcement of such vacancy, to serve until the next general election, at which time a successor shall be elected to serve any unexpired portion of such term.
